Basic Aircraft Electrical Troubleshooting is geared to those who have been exposed to basic electricity, basic aviation electrical components, charging systems, or on-the-job training. This book contains a myriad of details that were left out in regular A&P and EASA basic textbooks. It requires the user to put a substantial effort into studying and reviewing new concepts of circuit analysis. This is necessary in order to fully comprehend circuit troubleshooting.
General Contents
- Part 1 of the book starts off with common electrical components such as contactors, solenoids,
relays, potentiometers, diodes, LED's, transistors, limit switches and proximity sensors. These parts are illustrated with pictorials and schematic symbols. Their operation and construction are illustrated and discussed in and out of a circuit.
- An in-depth study of the five types of circuits are illustrated in Part 2.
- Part 3 covers the fundamentals of the voltmeter.
- The foundation for understanding different and similar circuit voltages is described in Part 4, through the use of the concept of Constant Voltage which will serve as a building block for understanding circuitry and troubleshooting.
- Part 5 integrates Constant Voltage with the voltmeter and Ohm's Law.
- The voltmeter is shown in Part 6 as a powerful device in locating a circuit fault.
- In Part 7 troubleshooting components using analog multimeters in ohmic mode and digital multimeters in both ohmic and diode modes are discussed.
- The fundamentals for troubleshooting shorted circuits using the ohmmeter and other instruments are illustrated in Part 8.
- Part 9 shows how the ammeter and loadmeter are connected into the circuit for monitoring activities and troubleshooting.
- Part 10 discusses the operation of the Generator, Alternator and Voltage Regulator, how they work,
how they interact with other components, their circuitry and how they are controlled within a circuit.
