Avotek's Powerplant Textbook, is the fourth in a series of four textbooks written for the beginning aviation maintenance student in accordance to standard A&P part 147 curriculum. The powerplant section details the theory, operation and maintenance of aircraft reciprocating, turboprop, and turbojet engines. Each system in each type of engine is covered in depth including its core components, ignition, fuel metering, induction, electrical, lubrication, cooling, starting, and instrument systems, as well as inspection techniques and troubleshooting. In addition, chapter 3 covers the variety propeller systems as used on small aircraft to large turboprops. This is a well written book with clear drawings and photos, and does a good job explaining aircraft powerplant systems in an intuitive and understandable way.
New in the second edition, material was added to reflect the changes in methods and technology used in the maintenance industry. The reciprocating engine area has a new section on Engine Familiarization and Differences. Content was added to the turbine section to cover VLJ engines. New content was added to the propeller section as well.
