Light Sport Aircraft
Inspection Procedures
by Kevin Kochersberger
Light Sport Aircraft Inspection Procedures is the first book we've seen on the maintenance and inspection of Light Sport and Ultralight type aircraft. Airframes, engines, and control systems are covered in depth along with many illustrations and photos showing typical damage and wear points which are common on these non-certificated aircraft. Owners and operators of this class of aircraft should consider this book required reading before your next flight or pre-flight inspection. A&P mechanics will also find this material extremely useful as Light Sport Aircraft become more common and this type of aircraft begin to make their way into your shops.
From the Introduction:
Aircraft and ultralight Light-sport aircraft
(LSA) encompass many types of airplanes, gliders and lighter-than-air aircraft.
These are simpler in design and operation than the typical “general aviation”
aircraft. Many of the emerging aircraft designs that are tailored to LSA promise
to account for significant growth in aviation in the next several years. The inspection maintenance and requirements for these aircraft are setting new trends throughout
the industry. The relative ease of attaining the repairman’s certificate
is just one of the changes that is in effect. This book covers all the basic methods
and techniques that are need to inspect and maintain an LSA in accordance with
the consensus standards.
